BBC Reporter, Kiki Mordi, Under Fire For 'Same-Sex Marriage Comment'
Kiki Mordi on Same Sex Marriage

Just some few weeks ago, the BBC reporter, Kiki Mordi was celebrated for her investigative report on the prevalence of sexual harassment in Nigerian universities.

Her documentary, broadcast by the BBC, was greeted with supports and even got the Nigerian Senate to dust its cupboard for the sexual harassment bill.

This day, however, she is under fire for her tweet condemning Nigeria’s government for opposing same sex marriage.

On her twitter handle, she wrote:

“It’s almost 2020 & same sex marriage is still illegal in Nigeria,” Kiki tweeted on Friday evening. “Like two people (of the same sex) can love themselves and want to build a family for themselves just like you & I but can’t because it’s illegal for them. A damn shame! We’re already on the wrong side of history.”

This was however met with knocks from Nigerians who appear to ‘stir up’ whenever the topic of same-sex marriage comes up in the country.

Recall that under the Goodluck Jonathan led administration, a law was passed sentencing people found guilty of engaging in homosexuality to fourteen years imprisonment.

Below are some reactions to Kiki Mordi’s stance:
