Davido doesn’t hold back in his new video and there is more than enough craziness to go around with subtle references to elements we have seen before.
Directed by Meji Alabi, the visuals remind one of the 2015 post-apocalyptic movie Mad Max: Fury Road and the night sequences are reminiscent of Run This Town video in which Jay-Z features Rihanna and Kanye West.
It’s a departure for Davido whose videos typically feature something different from what we see here. This shows that he is willing to go beyond his comfort zone; something that is most commendable.
The cool and suggestive nature of the lyrics sharply contrasts the sheer energy of those seen on screen and it’s the combination of these two different elements that add to the overall aesthetics of the song.
Naira Marley gets down to business when his part arrives, ditching his usual smiling expression for a more serious one, spitting hardcore lyrics and punch lines to an erotic song.
Zlatan’s energetic vibe is infectious as he dons his boxing gloves. He is not here to mess around, just doing his part to make the song more appealing. Wurld just blows fans away with his sensual vocals and the effect is spell-binding.
The dancers and performers in the video are dressed in outlandish costumes and credits must go to whoever designed them as they are in the territory of beyond-this-world loco.
There is a certain beauty in the abnormality seen here and Naira Marley and Zlatan are the perfect choices to bring that out the more.
Davido doesn’t play it safe in Sweet in the Middle video and I guess that’s the point; not holding back on what you derive pleasure from. It’s something that the visuals portray well and it’s a job well done.
