Ex- PM Of Algeria Declared President After An Unpopular Poll.
Prime Minister Abdelmadjid Tebboune

In an atmosphere of protests in the streets of Algeria, and the glaring boycotted election that took place in Algeria on 12th of December 2019, a former Algerian prime minister Abdelmadjid Tebboune has been elected president of the northern African country.

The 74-year old succeeded Abdelaziz Bouteflika, who was forced to resign in April after two decades in power. However, while the authorities hope the election will end months of upheaval in the country, the demonstrators who toppled his predecessor has vowed their struggle will not stop.

Tebboune served as housing minister under Bouteflika and briefly as premier before falling out with moguls in the ex-leader’s entourage, was announced on Friday as the winner of more than half the vote, making a second round unnecessary.

The official announcement by the country’s monitoring election authority, which held a press conference in Algiers on Friday, confirmed Tebboune led Algeria’s presidential polls, with around 4.9 millions of the counted votes, ahead of Islamist candidate Abdelkader Bengrina, who won 17.38 percent of the votes (1.4 million of votes).

Authorities have declared that 40% of voters had taken part in the election on Thursday, which is high enough to vindicate the election. In spite of boycott.

Unfortunately , many protesters saw the contest between five officially sanctioned candidates as an illegitimate malinger intended to keep the old ruling elite in place. The demonstrators are demanding that the over 20 decades ruling elites hand over power to a new generation.

While thousands of demonstrators took to the streets across Algeria all through Thursday’s election, the Algerian authorities have said that the turnout was satisfying and it would give the president enough backing to implement his reforms.

Indeed, it is so visible to the blind and audible to the deaf that, with the unpopular nature of the just concluded election, Tebboune will face hard times.

Meanwhile the protesters have declared a very strong mind in toppling any element of the old ruling elites. All they clamoured for the old ruling elite to cede power to a new generation.
