A coalition of civil society groups has given the Federal Government and the Department of State Services (DSS) a 14-day ultimatum to release #RevolutionNow mastermind Omoyele Sowore.

The group was vocal about its disapproval of what it called the excesses of the DSS and also demanded the release of former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, and Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, and other individuals being detained by the security outfit.

The group issued the ultimatum yesterday at a conference held in Abuja, highlighting its concerns over the attacks on free speech launched by the Buhari administration.

Speaking at the occasion, Yemi Adamolekun from Enough Is Enough Nigeria said that if the government failed to meet their demands, they would occupy the offices of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) all over the country.

Also addressing the same issue, Olusesan Semaye, Executive Director, Centre for Truth and Liberty (CTL) noted that the recent turn of events paints Nigeria in a bad light and that the democratic space would be reduced under a system that shuns the rule of law.

The unhealthy development, no doubt, casts Nigeria in a bad light. More disturbing however is that it portends grave danger ahead, as the democratic space will further be shrunken under a hostile system that negates the rule of law.Olusesan Semaye – guardian.ng
