Typhoon Phanfone has left many destitute though there have been no recorded casualties

A day of celebration turned bleak for tens of thousands as Typhoon Phanfone swept across Central Philippines on Christmas day.

The abnormally strong gust of wind destroyed houses and uprooted trees, leading to a major blackout as it left scores of people destitute in the wake of its destructive path.

Thousands of citizens were left stranded at the height of the festive season as they took shelter in their houses which were full of water as a result of the typhoon.

Thankfully, no deaths were recorded as those who have embarked on rescue missions revealed that they are yet to reach isolated zones, especially among the flood-affected parts.

The deadliest typhoon to hit the Philippines is Super Typhoon Haiyan which left over 7,300 persons dead or missing in 2013.

More than 25,000 individuals are now stranded as ferry services have been shut down. Flights have also been canceled though the capital city of Manila wasn’t affected by the typhoon.
