Akon has said that the city would be like a “real-life Wakanda”, an obvious reference to the fictional city seen in the 2018 superhero movie Black Panther.
The popular singer who spent his childhood in Senegal before relocating to New Jersey in the United States first made the public aware of his plan at the 2018 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, where he declared that he believed that blockchain and crypto could save Africa in many ways.
Akon’s cryptocurrency, Akoin, will be eventually be made available in all 54 African countries and according to the information provided on its website, it will “empower Africa.”
