Fans who have been looking forward to seeing the return of Jamal on the Fox series Empire will be disappointed as Fox President Michael Thorn has confirmed that actor Jussie Smollett will never be brought back to the show.
Smollett was involved in a hate crime scandal last year which led to his exit from the popular show and Thorn was unequivocal in his comments about Empire being “bigger” than the actor.
The Fox executive stated that the spectacle generated by the scandal would overshadow Empire, saying in no uncertain terms that they would not be bringing Smollett back.
It will be recalled that Odu News earlier reported that the series creator Lee Daniels said that they were in talks with Smollett to return to the role of Jamal for the season finale as it would be weird for the show to end without the character making an appearance.
Thorn’s recent comments comes as a surprise and fans will begin to wonder how exactly the story will be concluded without the inclusion of one of its most important characters.
Empire season 6 premiered on September 24, 2019, and is the final season of the series.
