The tale of the one ring which was made to rule them all is coming to Amazon and the main cast list has been officially announced.
Movie fans will always remember The Lord of the Rings movies as they were responsible for revitalizing the fantasy genre. Director Peter Jackson’s interpretation of the popular adventure books got universal critical acclaim and won numerous awards.
The television series is set during the 3,441-year period known as the Age of Numenor (or the Second Age) and its plot will explore new storylines preceding the events of The Fellowship of the Ring.
In the books, the Second Age saw the creation of Sauron’s ring and there have been reports that the Island of Numenor could be shown in the series which will be shot in New Zealand.
Production is expected to begin in February 2020 and the series showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay said in a statement:
After undertaking an extensive global search, we are delighted finally to reveal the first group of brilliant performers who will take part in Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings series. These exceptionally talented women and men are more than just our actors: they are the newest members of an ever-expanding creative family that is now working tirelessly to bring Middle-earth to life anew for fans and audiences worldwide.
The cast includes Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Tom Budge, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, and Daniel Weyman.
Amazon has revealed that they will be making five seasons of the show, with a budget of over a billion dollars to bring Tolkien’s beloved stories to life.
