Netflix’s The Witcher is the latest fantasy series on the streaming platform and its non-linear plot left many fans confused, something that showrunner Lauren Hissrich says will not repeat itself in the second season.
The second season will employ the use of a straightforward plot to tell the story against the first which left fans complaining that they didn’t figure out the timeline till the fourth episode.
It was not until after episode four that things became clearer as the path of the main characters were reconciled to the present.
Fielding questions on Reddit, showrunner Lauren Hissrich had this to say about fans’ criticism of season 1’s misleading timeline:
Honestly, I didn’t expect this to be one of the most hotly-contested parts of the series. I’ve heard a lot of people say ‘I didn’t figure it out until episode 4!”‘– which is exactly when we expected people would do it. The people who hated it (the timeline) will luck out because S2 is structured differently. The story will be much more linear now that all three of the characters’ timelines have intersected.
Fans should rest easy now knowing that season two timeline will not tow the path of its predecessor. The producers deviated a little from the source material, a decision that could be disastrous sometimes. It was even said that at a point the character of Princess Ciri (Freya Allan) would be the central focus.
The Witcher season 2 will start filming soon with new episodes set to be released in mid-to-late 2021.
