Netflix’s Resident Evil series has reportedly begun production, with shooting on the eight one-hour episodes taking place in April.
Although no showrunner has been officially announced, things are beginning to fall into place for the project which will film in South Africa from June to October 2020.
As at last month, Netflix was still in search of a showrunner to “shepherd the production” that plans to stick to the basic premise of the video games.
The upcoming series will also deepen the existing mythology and serve as a setup for the movie franchise. Also, it will further “explore the inner workings of the Umbrella Corporation and the new world order caused by the outbreak of the T-virus.”
The Resident Evil movies starred Milla Jovovich as Alice, an enhanced individual who fights the monsters created by the deadly viral plague.
Based on the video games, the films were directed mostly by Paul W.S. Anderson, with the latest being Resident Evil: The Final Chapter released in 2016.
