The biggest winners at the year’s event to honor the worst movies (called the Razzies) have been announced, and Tom Hooper’s film Cats took a prominent place.
Despite its ensemble cast, Cats was a critical and commercial failure, earning $76 million on a budget of $100 million. It received generally negative reviews from critics who shredded it for its CGI, plot, and tone. Many called it the worst movie of 2019.
The 40th edition of the Razzies was to take place on Saturday, March 14th, 2020 but was canceled due to the coronavirus epidemic. The winners were announced in a mini-ceremony on YouTube.
John Travolta won his second Worst Actor award for The Fanatic, Hilary Duff was named Worst Actress for portraying Sharon Tate in The Haunting of Sharon Tate, and Rambo: Last Blood got Worst Remake, Rip-off or Sequel and a new award; Worst Disregard for Human Life and Public Property.
Eddie Murphy was also given the Razzie Redeemer Award (it celebrates an actor who bounced back from a critical or commercial slump) for his performance in Dolemite Is My Name.
