Things are turning around for China as the country has reopened about 500 cinemas as of Monday, March 23, 2020.
The latest development in the nation’s entertainment industry represents 4.5% of theatres across the country and was made available by ticketing agency Maoyan.
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, Chinese cinemas have been suffered losses, leading to a shutdown on January 23 so that the spread of the virus could be checked.
The theaters are now beginning to reopen as the country records a major decline in the infection numbers.
CGTN reported during the weekend that 486 cinemas had opened on Friday, March 20, and total earnings were just $1,945. About 80% of that came from Xinjiang, an independent region in far West of China, 3,300kms from the epicenter of the outbreak in Wuhan.
Other regions that have reopened cinemas include Shandong, Fujian, Sichuan, and Guangdong. No tickets were sold at all in Shandong and Guangdong on Friday, March 20, 2020.
