American singer Kenny Rogers has passed away at the age of 81.

The country music icon died of natural causes under care, surrounded by his family, says a representative for the singer. As a result of the coronavirus epidemic, the family will organize a small private service, with a public memorial planned at a later date.

Rogers was finishing his tour in April 2018 when he announced that he was calling off the remaining dates due to health challenges.

A special called Biography: Kenny Rogers had been announced in early March 2020, and is set to air on April 13. It will reportedly focus around the all-star salute Rogers got in Nashville on October 25, 2017.

Kenny Ray Rogers was born on August 21, 1938. He was a singer, songwriter, actor, record producer, and entrepreneur. A member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, Rogers charted over 120 singles across different music genres, selling over 100 million records worldwide. This makes him one of the best-selling artists of all time.

He also featured in several movies and TV shows, most notably in Kenny Rogers as the Gambler and Six Pack (1982).

Kenny Rogers was married five times and is survived by five children.
