Danish actor Kim Bodnia has been added to the cast of the second season of Netflix’s fantasy series The Witcher.
Some fans of the series were clamoring for Star Wars actor Mark Hamill to be cast as Geralt’s mentor Vesemir, but it was a wish that wasn’t to be granted as Kim Bodnia will play the part.
The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as the monster-hunting mutant whose path crosses with a sorcerer and a princess in his quest to find his destiny.
Geralt’s mentor Vesemir is described as:
a charming relic of the witcher Golden Age. He is the oldest and most experienced Witcher in the series, as well as a father figure to Geralt (Cavill). As one of the survivors of the Massacre at Kaer Morhen, a haunting slaughter that nearly exterminated the Witchers, he is fiercely protective of the remaining few, who he sees as an endangered community who can find glory on “the Path” slaying monsters.
Showrunner and executive producer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich stated that she was thrilled to work with Bodnia, having admired his unique talents:
I am so thrilled to welcome Kim Bodnia to the cast of The Witcher. I have admired his unique talents in shows like Killing Eve and The Bridge, and cannot wait for him to bring strength, tenacity, and warmth to the character of Vesemir, who is such an integral part of our upcoming season.
The Witcher season 2 will see Anya Chalotra return as Yennefer, Freya Allan as Ciri, and Joey Batey as Jaskier. It will be available for streaming on Netflix sometime in 2021.
