The never aging Nigerian actress, Kate Henshaw has kicked against the decision of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, to select Senator Elisha Abbo as a patron of the guild.
In a social media post recently, the Cross River born actress who wondered if this was the best the leadership of the AGN could come out with as their patron, said “Still waiting on your response @emekarollas …..I will reach out to you again like I did yesterday and I would like you to kindly explain what thought processes led to this! The Actors Guild of Nigeria deserves better and this is definitely not it!!!”
Kate Henshaw is not the only actress to kick against Senator’s Abbo appointment, as Hilda Dokubo, another Nollywood veteran, also recently kicked against this selection, tagging senator Abbo a woman abuser.
The Inspector-General of the Nigeria Police ordered an investigation into the incident. The Senate also set up an investigative panel head by Senator Sam Egwu to do a thorough investigation in the incident and report back to the Senate within two weeks.
At the first sitting of the panel a heated argument ensued between Senators Abbo and Oluremi Tinubu on the method to be adopted. Abbo had asked the panel to conduct its investigation off camera.
Before his arraignment in the magistrate court for criminal assault where he also pleaded not guilty, Abbo issued a public apology. He was consequently released on bail.
Hilda Dokubo opines that the guild appoints patrons based on brand gains and the allegations of woman beating trailing Abbo does not put the guild in a positive light.
