Tesla CEO Elon Musk has tweeted that his company is ready to provide free FDA-approved ventilators as the world grapples with the coronavirus pandemic.
In his most recent tweet, Musk said that Tesla is ready to ship ventilators that across the world — areas that are within Tesla delivery regions — but only on one condition. Musk said that the ventilators must be needed immediately and not for storing in warehouses for future.
Musk tweeted, “We have extra FDA-approved ventilators. Will ship to hospitals worldwide within Tesla delivery regions. Device & shipping cost are free. Only requirement is that the vents are needed immediately for patients, not stored in a warehouse. Please me or @Tesla know.”
As per Musk’s Twitter feed, Tesla has donated 40 ventilators to a hospital in Queens, New York. Musk in a separate tweet said that he was happy to help and more ventilators are available “if needed”.
In the last couple of weeks as the pandemic has grown, Musk’s views have changed drastically. Earlier, he had tweeted that the panic over coronavirus was dumb and faced a lot of criticism over his views.
A couple of days after, he had posted a tweet, which included a research paper highlighting the use of a drug that could cure the coronavirus. Tesla has shut down its plants in the US and it was reported that two of its employees had caught the coronavirus.
