A week after ending its lockdown in Accra and Kumasi, Ghana has recorded 271 new cases of the coronavirus.
Ghana Web reports that Ghana Health Service (GHS) confirmed the 271 new cases yesterday, Sunday April 26, 2020, taking the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 1,550. A recent death from the virus was also recorded.
11 persons in Ghana have now lost their lives to the pandemic, with 155 making full recoveries.
The GHS data analysis also revealed that 62 percent of the infected persons in the nation are male, while 38 percent are female.
It was further disclosed that only 16 percent of those infected have a travel history, while an astonishing 84 percent have no clear history of traveling.
A week ago, Ghana’s President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo lifted the three-week lockdown in Accra and Kumasi cities, citing improved COVID-19 testing and the severe impact of the restrictions on the poor and vulnerable in the country.
The nation’s leader had said the decision did not mean the government was letting its guard down, stating that existing bans on public gatherings and school closure were still in place.
He urged citizens to wear face masks when going outside and continue adhering to the social distancing measures put in place to stop the spread of the virus.
