COVID-19: India Extends Lockdown
India extends lockdown to May 3

India has extended its nationwide lockdown following the increase of coronavirus cases in the country.

The earlier shutdown of three weeks has ended but Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended it to May 3, 2020, in an effort to curb the spread of the virus.

In his address to the nation yesterday, Modi said:

“Till May 3, every Indian will have to stay in lockdown. I request all Indians that we stop the coronavirus from spreading to other areas”.

“The nation has benefited greatly from social distancing and lockdown.

“If we only look at it from the economic standpoint it looks expensive – we’ve had to pay a huge cost, but before the lives of Indians, this has no comparison.“

According to the Indian government data, 10,541 people have been infected with COVID-19 and it has claimed the lives of 358 persons as at Monday night.
