Prince William has opened a new hospital as a contribution to the ongoing fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
The opening of the new NHS Nightingale Hospital was announced by the royal via video conference on Thursday, April 16, 2020, in Birmingham, England.
The 37-year-old gave a speech to those who contributed to the emergency COVID-19 hospital which was built in 8 days to aid those with the infection in the area.
Part of Prince Harry’s speech reads:
“The building you are standing in is yet another example of how people across the country have risen to this unprecedented challenge. The Nightingale hospitals will rightly go down as landmarks in the history of the NHS.”
The medical facility has the capability to help up to 1,500 patients.
Statistics show that there have been almost 13,000 deaths from the coronavirus in the United Kingdom, and nearly 140,000 globally.
