Oxford University’s Jenner Institute is set to carry out clinical tests of the coronavirus vaccine on 6,000 people.
The Institute believes it has produced an effective COVID-19 vaccine and the clinical trials on the 6,000 persons will be din before the end of May 2020.
The New York Times reports that the Jenner vaccine was tested on six Rhesus Macaque monkeys at the US National Institute of Health’s Rocky Mountain Laboratory in Montana last month.
High doses of the virus were given to the monkeys, and all six remained healthy 28 days later.
The reports reveals that monkeys that weren’t given the vaccine fell sick.
The Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) is funding the nine different coronavirus vaccine projects, and is optimistic a vaccinee would be ready this year.
CEPI had envisaged a later time frame because it had not taken factors into account such as companies working together.
