A black man in Minneapolis died after a cop who was arresting him refused to release his knee from his airway despite pleas from the former.
On the night of Monday, May 25, 2020, cops in the aforementioned area responded to a “forgery in progress” and the officers arrived and found the suspect sitting in a car.
According to the department, the African-American resisted arrest so he was put in handcuffs. He also appeared to be suffering medical distress.
“At no time were weapons of any type used by anyone involved in this incident“, said the police department.
In a very disturbing video, the suspect is seen on the ground in cuffs as the officer’s knee is firmly placed on the back of his neck.
The black man cries out in the footage, “Please, I can’t breathe”, but the unperturbed cop doesn’t bulge as his colleague watches passively.
A passerby says, “This is bullsh*t bro. You’re stopping his breathing right there, bro. Get him off the ground, bro.”
The suspect becomes motionless and an ambulance shows up. The man is taken to a hospital where according to the report, he passed away.
The officers, whose bodycams were activated during the incident, have been placed on administrative leave and the FBI has launched an investigation.
