COVID-19: FG Considers ‘Isolated Lockdown’ As Cases Reach 5,621

The Federal Government is considering imposing ‘isolated lockdowns’ in certain parts of the country as coronavirus cases hit 5,621.

Per a report from ThisDay, the above information was revealed by the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force (PTF), Boss Mustapha.

While he disclosed that the government was thinking about the move, Mustapha however dismissed the possibility of a nationwide lockdown.

He noted that some cluster areas in parts of the country would be monitored closely for possible intervention as advised by medical personnel.

The PTF boss cited the federal government’s intervention in Kano State as an example of how the isolated lockdown might look, adding that the situation reports across the country were being monitored closely so that the government would determine when to intervene.

As at the night of Saturday, May 16, 2020, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) had announced 176 cases of COVID-19.

Of the total cases of 5,621, the number of those who have recovered and have been discharged now stand at 1,472. The number of deaths have risen to 176.
