Popular Nollywood filmmaker Teco Benson has recalled how a scene with a snake in which veteran actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde was featured became a race for dear life.
While sharing his experience working with the talented actress, Benson relived the ugly incident they had in 1997 while on the set of one of his movies, Scores to Settle.
The director said that in a scene where the snake was used, the dangerous reptile suddenly became violent.
Benson said:
We engaged a snake charmer to provide a King Cobra for the scene where Omotola would turn into a snake. The charmer was great at controlling the snake. Patrick Doyle was playing the role of a pastor. So, during the prayer scene, Doyle became very spiritual and started speaking in tongues. Suddenly, the snake lost the charm and became violent. All of us, including RMD (Richard Mofe-Damijo), Omotola, Patrick Doyle, DOP, Chico took to our heels alongside the snake charmer. It took the charmer about twenty minutes of invocation to gain control of the snake again.”
Benson advised Omotola to document these experiences in book format, saying:
People need to know the kind of energy and blood invested in the building of this celebrated industry.”
