Actor Joe Pantoliano is recuperating at home after being struck down by a car in his Connecticut neighborhood.
The bald movie star played the role of Cypher in The Matrix, a character who ended up betraying Neo (Keanu Reeves) and his team, paving the way for the abduction of Morpheus (Lawrence Fishburne).
According to Deadline, Pantoliano’s condition was confirmed by his agent, Barry McPherson, who made the following comments:
Yes, Joey was hit by a car, thrown into a fence and has stitches. He is back home being monitored for a concussion and chest trauma. Because of COVID-19, the hospital didn’t want to keep him overnight. He is grateful to everyone who has been reaching out.”
Pantoliano’s wife Nancy said he was taking a walk with his family in the neighborhood when a Porsche was hit by another car. That sent the Porsche careening across the road, hitting the 69-year-old actor.
The impact of being hit by the Porsche knocked Pantoliano off his feet into a nearby wooden fence, gashing his head and causing injuries to his left leg and shoulder.
Pantoliano also played the brash mobster Ralph Cifaretto on HBO‘s The Sopranos.
He is also a published author and is active in the field of mental health, having documented his mother’s and his own issues.
Pantoliano has featured in movies like Running Sacred (1986), The Fugitive (1993), Bad Boys (1994), The Matrix (1999), and Memento (2000).
