A staff of Union Bank has died of coronavirus complications.

The news was confirmed by the Chief Executive Officer of the bank, Emeka Emuwa.

An information gathered from an internal memo made public yesterday revealed that the bank staff died while being treated for COVID-19 at the Infectious Disease Center in Yaba, Lagos.

The bank staff had been working remotely since March 2020 before contracting the deadly disease.

Part of the memo reads:

Dear colleagues, notwithstanding the easing of the lockdown, the threat of COVID-19 remains high and real. Today, we received a painful reminder of the threat.

We are deeply saddened to announce that one of our colleagues died in the early hours of today (Monday, May 4th) while being treated at the Infectious Disease Center in Yaba, Lagos.”
