According to a report by Nigerian Pilot, the panel was set up as a result of fraud allegations leveled against the EFCC boss by the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, in a letter sent to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Odunews.com reports that Malami urged President Buhari to relieve the EFCC boss of his position over fraud allegations.

A source privy to the issue told the newspaper that both the acting chairman of the EFCC and the AGF would appear before the panel for some interactions, questioning and explanations.

President Buhari has reportedly directed the National Security Adviser, NSA, Major General Babagana Monguno (rtd), his Chief of Staff, Ibrahim Gambari, the DG DSS, Magaji Bichi, a representative from both the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to look into the allegations and report back.

Malami accused the EFCC boss of disclosing a total naira recovery of N504 billion but lodged N543 billion in the Recovery Account with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Incidentally, this exceeded the disclosed figures by N39 billion.”
