The Nigeria Centre of Disease Control (NCDC) has urged Nigerians not to use face shields alone but in addition to face masks.
Director-General of the agency, Chikwe Ihekweazu stated this during the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 on Thursday.
He said: “There has been increasing use of face shield to protect the population from the transmission of COVID19.
“Today I would like to advise that face shields are great but they should be used in addition to face mask and not in place of face masks.
“From what we know at the moment, a Face shield is not sufficient to protect ourselves and the population. So we can gradually over the next few days evolve out of face shields and back to masks,” he added.
The NCDC reported 594 COVID-19 cases in the country on Thursday bringing the total to 22,614. However, 7,822 patients have recovered while 549 persons have died from the dreaded disease.
