Justin Timberlake has reacted to the death of Rayshard Brooks.
The singer and actor shared a post on Instagram on Sunday, June 14, 2020, disclosing how the incident has made him heartbroken.
Rayshard Brooks, a black man living in the United States, was killed on Friday, June 12, 2020, after resisting arrest at the hands of two white police officers.
The officers had approached Rayshards after he had reportedly fallen asleep in his car. After failing a sobriety test, an attempt had been made to take him into custody but he had resisted.
Rayshards had reportedly taken one of the officers’ tasers and ran. Shots were fired by one of the cops, leading to his death. The autopsy reveals that Rayshards had suffered two gunshot wounds to the back, dying of organ injuries and blood loss during emergency surgery.
Taking to Instagram, Timberlake wrote:
As a dad, this photo hurts. #RayshardBrooks was a father of three girls…1, 2, and 8 years old. He should not be dead. ⠀
⠀
Neither should #RiahMilton, #DominiqueFells, and #RobertFuller. This week, these four innocent people became victims of racism, violence, and intolerance. And we’re still waiting for Justice for #BreonnaTaylor. I’m heartbroken for their families and for this country.⠀
⠀
The system needs to change… it has repeatedly shown us that Black people in America are not safe. I’ll follow up with more resources and ways to help. Continue to SAY THEIR NAMES. #BlackLivesMatter”
