Christopher Nolan’s Tenet has been delayed yet again, this time to August 2020.
The upcoming thriller was originally set to arrive on July 17, 2020, but had to be pushed back due to COVID-19 concerns.
In its place, it was announced by Warner Bros. that a special 10th-anniversary edition of another of Nolan’s films, Inception, would be re-released, offering a sneak peek into Tenet as well. The Inception anniversary release has now been moved to July 31.
A Warner Bros. spokesperson commented on the development, saying:
Warner Bros. is committed to bringing ‘Tenet’ to audiences in theaters, on the big screen, when exhibitors are ready and public health officials say it’s time.
In this moment what we need to be is flexible, and we are not treating this as a traditional movie release. We are choosing to open the movie mid-week to allow audiences to discover the film in their own time, and we plan to play longer, over an extended play period far beyond the norm, to develop a very different yet successful release strategy.”
Tenet stars John David Washington as a man who is recruited by an organization to help stop World War 3. Robert Pattinson, Michael Caine, Kenneth Branagh, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson co-star.
