Ojude Oba Festival Inspires Mercy Aigbe Film Coming June 2026

The upcoming film "Iwe Ala: The Book of Dreams" will bring the visual spectacle and cultural grandeur of the Ojude Oba festival to Nigerian cinemas when it releases nationwide on June 12, 2026.

Director Adeoluwa Owu built the movie around a family drama centred on a tailoring dynasty fractured by conflict and betrayal. The story unfolds against the backdrop of Ijebu culture, weaving together themes of family, love, legacy, and the secrets buried within bloodlines. Owu said he committed fully to the project once he read a script that celebrated Nigerian heritage so thoroughly.

The cast reads like a roll call of Nollywood's establishment. Mercy Aigbe, Owobo Ogunde, Dele Odule, Demola Adedoyin, Tobi Makinde, Eniola Ajao, Aishat Isiaka, and Tolu Otebiyi anchor the ensemble. The film also features Farooq Oreagba, the viral personality who dominated the 2026 Ojude Oba festival for his impeccable fashion sense, in what producers describe as a cinematic crossover.

Promotion around the film emphasizes the visual elements that made this year's Ojude Oba celebration a fashion moment. Behind-the-scenes photos show Aigbe and Ajao in traditional Yoruba Aso Oke and elaborate geles paired with statement sunglasses. The production framed the movie as a love letter to Ijebu culture where tradition meets high fashion.

Cinemas across Nigeria will begin showing "Iwe Ala" from June 12, 2026.
