Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, has issued a stern warning to Nasir Ladan, director-general of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), over the execution of the 774,000 special works programme.
According to a report by TheCable, Mr Keyamo asked the DG to “halt all further plans to proceed with an alternative plan to implement the programme with the committees of the national assembly.
Odunews.com reports that the Minister and some lawmakers were involved in a heated exchange over who should coordinate the scheme.
The lawmakers argued that the NDE DG should superintend the programme instead of the Minister.
Mr Keyamo, however, berated the committee for its attempt to dictate the process of the programme.
President Muhammadu Buhari has also given the nod for the programme to start under the supervision of Mr. Keyamo’s ministry.
In his directive to the NDE DG, Mr Keyamo asked him to halt all further plans to proceed with an alternative plan to implement the programme with the committees of the national assembly.
The minister also asked the DG not to ”do anything or take any step regarding the preparation and actual execution of the special public works programme without” his express approval in writing.
