The embattled  EFCC  boss had written to the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, seeking his release on bail from detention.

Responding to Magu’s letter, the Police noted that he is being investigated by the Presidential panel and not the police.

This was contained in a letter signed by DCP Idowu Owohunwa, Principal Staff Officer to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu and addressed to Magu’s counsel, Tosin Ojaomo, in response to his bail application.

The police made it clear that Magu was being “held” by the Presidency.

“The Inspector-General directs that your attention be drawn to the fact that the is not investigating and he is accordingly not being detained by the police by the Presidential Panel that is investigating the activities of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

“The Inspector-General of Police, therefore, advises that you consider redirecting your request to the Chairman of the Presidential Panel for appropriate attention,” the letter reads. reports that President Buhari had set up a probe panel chaired by Mr Salami, a retired Justice, to investigate alleged mismanagement of recovered assets by the EFCC between May 2015 and May 2020.

Magu was consequently arrested and has been in detention for over four days at the Force Criminal Investigation Department’s Area 10 Abuja headquarters.
