South Africa reported 572 coronavirus-related deaths in a day.
With this, the country’s death toll from the novel coronavirus stands at 5,940.
Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize, made this known via his twitter handle on Wednesday.
“Regrettably, we report 572 new COVID-19 related deaths. This brings the cumulative number of deaths to 5,940.
“We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the health care workers who treated the deceased.
“The number of recoveries currently stands at 229, 195 which translates to a recovery rate of 58%,” he said.
South Africa, 394,948 cases, remains the worst-hit country in Africa and fifth in the world.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s COVID-19 cases increased to 38,344 with 813 deaths recorded.
