According to the report, the company recently sent a new contract deal to all pilots, showing 80 percent reduction in their monthly pay.

A source who preferred anonymity said over 70 percent of the pilots are affected. “If we agree to the 80 percent pay cut, then we will end up earning a pittance, perhaps below a dedicated Molue driver. That is why more than half of us are sacked,” said one of the affected pitots.

Copies of some of the Termination of Appointment letters seen by DAILY NIGERIAN were signed by the Deputy Human Resources Manager, Ume Ume, on behalf of the company.

One of the letters read in part: “We write to notify you that your employment as a Captain is hereby terminated effective immediately. Unfortunately, due to devastating negative impact occasioned by covid-19 pandemic, the Company is unable to continue with your employment.”

The letter said further that the affected pilots would be paid one month’s salary in lieu of notice, in accordance with the terms of their contract of employment, as well as a pro rata payment of salary for July 2020 “based on the date of your recall back to duty”.
