The Osun State government yesterday raised the alarm over an alleged plot by some people to disrupt tomorrow’s governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
It alerted the public to the alleged importation of fake Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) uniforms into the state by some “unscrupulous persons”.
Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Funke Egbemode, said in a statement that the plot is to distribute the uniforms to some non-state actors to disrupt the intra-party poll and cause chaos.
The government warned those behind the plot to drop the idea.
It stressed that security operatives would deal decisively with any individual or group that wants to cause violence and destruction.
The statement reads in part: “We want to warn those behind this nefarious plot to jettison the idea as security operatives have been put on the alert and mandated to deal decisively with anyone bent on plunging the state into crisis.
“We also want to appeal to parents and guardians to rein in their children and wards so as not to lend themselves as tools in the hands of these merchants of death and instability, whose only stock in trade is violence and precipitation of crisis.
“Osun is known for peace, and as a responsive and responsible government, we are ready to take all legitimate steps to guard the enviable status very jealously.”
On Tuesday, the police in a report of incident confirmed that NSCDC, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) officials that accompanied Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola into Osogbo on Monday, shot sporadically unprovoked, creating panic in the centre of the state capital.
The APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) has constituted a seven-man panel to conduct the primary election.
The election committee is headed by Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazak; Senator Julius Ucha is the Secretary.
Other members are Senator Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe, Abdulkarim Abdulraman, Wale Raji, Mrs Yetunde Imolehin and Ofonmbuk Okon Bassy.
A party source said the election will be by direct primary.
Governor Gboyega Oyetola, former House of Representatives Deputy Speaker Yusuff Lasun and former Secretary to the State Government Moshood Adeoti will slug it out.
The governorship election will hold on July 16.
