The President stated this when he met with states’ governors under the All Progressives Congress.

Buhari also put to bed rumours of Goodluck Jonathan emerging as the party’s presidential candidate after he noted that only a true party man deserves the APC ticket in a free and fair primary election.

President Buhari sought the collaboration of the APC National Working Committee and the Governors to ensure a well organized presidential primary.

The President also told the Governors and party chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, who attended the meeting that the party should work to reduce the number of the presidential aspirants to a manageable size from the current 23 before the convention.

Addressing the governors, Buhari said, “Our objective must be the victory of our party and our choice of candidate must be someone who would give the Nigerian masses a sense of victory and confidence even before the elections.

“In a few days, the party will be holding its Convention during which primaries would take place to pick the Presidential Flag Bearer for the 2023 General Elections.

“This is a very significant process and its outcome should prove to the world, the positive quality of the APC regarding democratic principles, culture as well as leadership.”
