The spate of gunmen attacks in Anambra state continued in the early hours of Monday after the state’s broadcast service was attacked, OduNews reports.
The assailants burnt a building, a company bus, and another vehicle parked on the premises belonging to a staff who had worked overnight.
According to DAILY POST, no lives were lost in the attack but the gunmen brutalised the staff they met on the premises, inflicting injuries on them.
The Anambra Broadcasting Service is owned by the Anambra state government. The station has been vocal in its criticisms of the various violent attacks in the state.
The state’s governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, has insisted that attacks being carried out in the state are done by his kinsmen. According to Soludo, those causing mayhem in the state are Igbos.
In his words, “Let us be very clear. These criminals causing mayhem in Anambra, albeit of disparate groups and gangs, are Igbos (dominantly from other South East states) whose real objective is lucrative criminality and foisting their idolatrous religion on the region.
“Unfortunately, every criminal gang (including cult groups) claims to be a “liberation movement”, making it difficult to differentiate between any genuine agitators from criminals. Unfortunately also, the criminals now dominate the space,” he said.
OduNews had reported how a lawmaker representing Soludo’s constituency in the Anambra state House of Assembly, Okuechukwu Okoye, was beheaded by gunmen. Few days after his death, a woman, Harira, and her four daughters were also killed.
