- Pro-Zoning Forces Angry Over Atiku’s Candidacy, Slam PDP, Tambuwal
The emergence of former vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, as the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party seems to have drawn the ire of those championing a Southern presidency. Recall that Atiku emerged as the Presidential candidate of the PDP after Sokoto state governor and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal pulled out of the race in the dying minute and endorsed Atiku.
2. AGF’S Probe Over N84bn loot: EFCC arrests ex-Zamfara governor, Yari
The ongoing probe by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission into the misappropriation of over N84bn by Nigeria’s Accountant General, Ahmed Idris, has hit a new dimension. The former Governor of Zamfara state has been indicted in the ongoing probe. Yari was accused by the EFCC of looting N22bn SURE-P funds through the office of the Accountant General, Ahmed Idris.
3. Zamafara Government Relocates NYSC Camp Over Security Fears
The Zamfara State government has temporarily relocated the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp from Tsafe Local Government to Gusau, the State capital, over rising insecurity. The State Deputy Governor, Senator Hassan Muhammad Gusau, disclosed this while receiving the Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General M K Fadah.
4. Jonathan Not Being Considered As Presidential Candidate – APC North West, Vice Chairman
The National Vice Chairman, North West, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Salihu Lukman, has said as far as the leadership of the party was concerned, former President Goodluck Jonathan was not even under consideration as the presidential candidate of the APC in the 2023 elections.
5. We Have Resumed Talks With FG – ASUU, SSANU
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian University say there are ongoing discussions with the Federal Government over the unions’ demands. The Federal Government inaugurated a seven-man committee chaired by the Pro-Chancellor of Alex Ekweme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Prof Nimi Briggs which has since commenced talks with the union.
6. Abuja-Kaduna Train Attack: Terrorists ‘revoke’ threat to kill passengers
The terrorists who attacked the Abuja-Kaduna train appear to have soft-pedalled on their earlier threat of killing abducted passengers. The terrorist had threatened to kill the abducted passengers if their demands are not met by the federal government. The terrorists have however revoked their threat. 7. Tinubu Congratulates Atiku, Says, “I Look Forward To Squaring Up With Him”
Former Lagos state governor and Presidential hopeful, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Sunday congratulated the winner of the Peoples Democratic Party presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, over his emergence. Although the All Progressives Congress presidential primary is yet to be held, Tinubu restated his confidence in emerging as the party’s flagbearer and ‘squaring up with’ Atiku at the 2023 polls.
8. Gunmen Kill NPC Commissioner, Abduct Two Daughters
Gunmen have killed a former Commissioner of the National Population Commission (NPC), Mr Zakari Umaru-Kigbu in Nasarawa State, and abducted two of his daughters. It was learnt that the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday at Umar-Kigbu’s residence in Azuba Bashayi, Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
9. NCDC Reports 21 Monkey-Pox Cases, One Related Death
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has reported 21 confirmed cases of Monkeypox with one death from nine States and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT. This came as it activated Monkeypox Emergency Operations Centre to strengthen in-country preparedness and contribute to the global response.
