Justice Olukayode Ariwoola will be sworn in as the Chief Justice of Nigeria following the resignation of Tanko Muhammed, OduNews can confirm.
Justice Tanko’s spokesperson, Ahuraka Isah, confirmed the resignation of his principal on Monday morning.
OduNews gathered that Justice Arowolo who is the next most senior justice of the Supreme Court will be sworn in today.
Tanko’s resignation comes in the wake of corruption charges levelled against him by 14 justices of the Supreme Court.
In a leaked letter last week, the Supreme Court justices accused Justice Tanko of corruption, misconduct and neglect of personnel welfare.
The rare charges were seen by court analysts as historically explosive, warning that it could worsen its reputation.
Mr Tanko replied to the justices, accusing them of dancing naked in the marketplace and absolving himself of any wrongdoing.
