Like Ekweremadu, NASS Should Wade Into Sunday Igboho’s Trial In Benin Republic – Shehu Sani

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, says the National Assembly should extend similar treatment it has shown to former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, on his ongoing organ trafficking allegations in the United Kingdom to Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Igboho.

Igboho had demanded independence for the Yoruba people following violence he attributed to Fulani herders in his region.

Police at the time accused Igboho and his associates of planning to wage a violent insurrection against Nigeria.

He was arrested in Benin while attempting to board a flight for Germany.

In a tweet via his verified Twitter page on Wednesday, Senator Sani said that Ekweremadu is getting the needed support on his trial in the UK and the same should be extended to Igboho in the Benin Republic.

He said, “Ekwerenmadu deserve all the necessary consular support he needs. The response of the NASS is in the right direction. But the same should be extended to Sunday Igboho”.

OduNews had earlier reported that the Senate resolved to send a delegation to the UK as a show of support to the embattled former deputy senate president and his wife.

Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice were arrested and charged in court by the UK Metropolitan police for bringing a child to the country in an attempt to harvest part of his body organ.

Lawan disclosed that he met with the British High Commissioner who briefed him on the progress of the case as well as details of what transpired.

Lawan added that the Senate delegation would include the members of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs.

“The Senate delegation will include members of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs who shall travel out in two days’ time”, Lawan said.
