One of the top presidential aspirants of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has opened up on the roles he played in the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari. Tinubu detailed how he convinced Buhari to contest after losing 3 elections and how he spearheaded his presidential campaign.
2. Akeredolu: Why APC Must Rotate Power
Ondo state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has insisted that the All Progressives Congress must rotate its presidential position if it intends to retain power in 2023. Akeredolu emphatically stated that it is the turn of the South to present Nigeria’s president in 2023 and anything against that will affect the party’s standing in next year’s general election.
3. APC Stakeholders, PANDEF Slam Buhari On Successor Change
National Vice Chairman, Northwest of APC, Dr Salihu Lukman, admonished President Buhari not to fall into the temptation of imposing the presidential candidate of the party. Also, the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), led by the South-South leader, Chief Edwin Clark, condemned in very strong terms situations where the people are not carried along in the process of coming up with candidates, except that the governors and a few individuals conclude on who should govern the people.
4. 2023: Osinbajo, APC Chairman, 5 Governors Meet In Aso Rock
Nigeria’s vice-President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday met behind closed doors with the National Chairman of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu and five governors of the Progressive Governors Forum. The meeting is connected to the APC’s quest in presenting a consensus candidate ahead of its primary slated for Monday, June 6th – 8th.
5. CBN Orders Bank Customers To Pay Indemnity For Transfers Above N1m
The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has ordered banks to collect indemnities from their customers for highly secured online funds transfers amounting to N1million and above for individual customers and N10 million for corporate customers. However, the apex bank placed an upper limit on the transferable amount at N25 million and N250 million for individual and corporate customers respectively.
6. Okada Ban: Lagos Set To Crush Another 2,228 Motorcycles
The Lagos State Task Force is set to crush another set of 2,228 impounded commercial motorcycles popularly called Okada on Friday (today). The Chairman of the task force, CSP Shola Jejeloye, disclosed this on Thursday. The Police had earlier announced that it has impounded 148 commercial motorcycles and arrested 14 riders and passengers.
7. US-Based Nigerian Kills Self After Shooting Wife, Grandmother
A Nigerian man, Obinna Igbokwe, on Thursday died by suicide after shooting his wife, Tangela, and grandmother in Texas, United States of America. NBC reported that Igbokwe left home with his three-month-old son, after shooting both women in their heads on Wednesday. Though the wife is critically injured and hospitalised, her grandmother died from the injury.
8. Presidential Primaries: Why Odigie Oyegun’s Panel Cleared Tinubu, 22 Others
The seven-man Presidential Aspirants Screening Committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, led by Chief John Odigie-Oyegun has cleared all the 23 aspirants it screened for Monday’s primaries. A source told Vanguard that the panel found all the aspirants “electable” and “has no reason to disqualify any of them.”
9. Ecuador: Super Eagles Lose In Peseiro’s Second Game
The Super Eagles concluded their tour of the United States of America with a loss to Ecuador at the 25,000–capacity Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey. The match played early Friday saw Nigeria losing 1-0 to Ecuador in new coach José Santos Peseiro’s second outing with the squad.
10. 2023: Lawan Campaign Organisation Announces Orji Kalu As DG
The Presidential campaign organisation of Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, has announced the Senate’s chief whip, Orji Uzor Kalu as its Director General. Kalu has been a strong supporter of Lawan’s candidacy. They however face a difficult challenge in securing the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress over the loud calls for the party to present a candidate of southern extraction.
