Snapchat Tests Paid Subscription, Calls It ‘Snapchat Plus’

Snapchat is testing a paid subscription tier, Snapchat+ or in-app purchase, that offers early access to experimental features like the ability to pin certain conversations, and to use exclusive icons.

Snapchat Tests Paid Subscription, Calls It 'Snapchat Plus'

The benefits that Snapchat Plus users may have are uncertain. Details about where it will be released are not given.

“We are doing early internal testing of Snapchat Plus, a new subscription for subscribers. We are excited about the potential to share exclusive experimental and pre-release features to our subscribers,” a company spokesperson said.

It’s unclear how Snapchat will differentiate between what they offer Plus subscribers and those in their beta program. Unlike the latter, which is free, Plus members pay for experimental and pre-release features.

App researcher Alessandro Paluzzi has revealed that the subscription to Snapchat Plus will cost €4.59 per month or €45.99 per year.

Back in December 2018, Snapchat released an update that let you pin profile friends as your “BFFs”. This feature unlocks special Snapchat badges and exclusive Snapchat icons. They also introduced being able to see your friends current location with their permission.

This data option has a lot of nightmares if someone takes control of that hardware. The company will have to explain how they’re storing this information and implement password protection for that service as a precaution.
