Nollywood actress Funke Akindele has been chosen as the deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos state ahead of the 2023 general elections.
She will be the running mate to the PDP’s governorship candidate in the state, Olajide Adediran ‘Jendor’.
The actress had been shortlisted alongside Teslim Balogun, Gbadebo Rhodes, Adenike Shobajo and Kolawole Vaughan for the position but got the party’s nod on Tuesday.
The party said the actress was chosen among the names as a result of her influence on the youths.
“It is about time the oldies are sacked and the youths were given a chance at leadership”, a chieftain of the PDP in Lagos state told OduNews.
Akindele joins other Nollywood actors like Desmond Elliot and Tonto Dike who have delved into mainstream politics. Like Akindele, Tonto Dikeh was picked as the deputy governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress in Rivers state.
Funke Akindele has been in the news in recent times after her husband, JJC Skillz, announced their divorce.
