Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory has witnessed different spates of attacks by different terrorist groups in recent months and this has caused panic among many Nigerians.
Abuja which hitherto had been a haven for many years considering it being the country’s capital has been made vulnerable to these attacks. On July 5, gunmen attacked the correctional facility in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, and freed hundreds of inmates, including suspected Boko Haram members.
Following the attack and threats by the terrorists, the government announced the shutdown of federal government colleges in the FCT.
The recent attack by the bandits at the military checkpoint close to Zuma rock along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway has further aggravated the fears of many Nigerians.
Just before the late-night attack at the military checkpoint, suspected bandits stormed the Kwali Area Council and kidnapped a commercial bus driver alongside his conductor.
The effrontery of the terrorists in attacking the country’s capital and issuing threats to abduct the President has left many Nigerians perturbed.
Reactions have continued to trail these ravaging attacks in the FCT. See some below:
Let me put Abuja’s insecurity problems into perspective for those who don’t understand:
The entire state security apparatus that we have in this country are HQ’d in Abuja. State govts have no definitive control over any of them.
If Abuja is not safe, nowhere is safe in Nigeria.

Do you know how bold these criminals have become to terrorize residents of Abuja?
The seat of power! Lol. We're in trouble o.

Can't believe what's unfolding in Abuja. Before our eyes… https://t.co/PIqIf3DD4y

If bandits can kill soldiers at that checkpoint by Zuma Rock, then Abuja is not safe.
But I wonder because there are a number of military bases around there, from Suleja to Zuba and Deidei.
With this, nowhere in Abuja is safe.

I feel so sad this morning. This city is not safe anymore. I have been shouting about the insecurity in Abuja. This incompetent govt, have done nothing meaningful to tackle these issues.
My close friend was robbed at gunpoint this morning. They stole his car. It's just a sad day

A friend of mine was robbed at gun point last night in Abuja. They didn't break into his house, didn't block them on the road. They were robbed at Chicken Republic in Abuja. These guys walked into a public eatery in Abu fucking Ja and snatched people's cars, money and phones. God

Not a single high ranking official was sacked after Kuje Prison was attacked and dangerous terrorists freed. Endless meetings but Bandits and Terrorists still operate around the outskirts of Abuja. It takes less than 1 hour 30 minutes to Aso Rock from Bwari or Zuba. Shame.

Abuja is not as well-guarded as many of us think it is. Maiduguri is more guarded than Abuja. But the game has changed. Equipments and manpower needs to be redirected to Abuja. And we need to be doing better with surveillance to neutralise attacks before they happen.

You hear repeatedly that Abuja is surrounded and you are skeptical. Then, Bandits and Terrorists attack Kuje, Bwari, and Zuma Rock Military checkpoint along Suleja-Zuba road. It’s really unfortunate how these criminals are so bold and Nigeria ???????? is on the defence.
