The Minister however noted that it is yet to fully agree to all the demands by the Academic Staff Union of Universities and the union might not suspend its strike action.

The Minister said this during the State House Press briefing on Thursday.

In his words, “I can tell you categorically that all unions will suspend their strike in the next one week except for ASUU which I’m not sure because they were making two requests which one of them is for their outstanding six months salaries to be paid for the Six months they did not work for and I told them NO”.

Furthermore, The minister said the ‘no work, No pay System is a way to call all unions to order and avert a further strike.

Adamu in his closing words on Asuu and other Universities Union also said that all unions have gone back to consult with their members to discuss the new offer. He is optimistic that all unions at loggerhead with the government will call off their Strike Next week after due consultations with their members.

The Minister also clarified that he was not given a deadline to resolve the strike issues within 2 weeks as stated by the Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige.

ASUU has been on since February 14 over the government’s failure to implement its demands on salaries and allowances of lecturers, improved funding for universities as well as the adoption of UTAS against the federal government’s preferred payment platform — Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

Meanwhile, ASUU in a statement earlier today has refused the new proposed salary structure for its members.
