Veteran Journalist and author Sam Omatseye has stirred a wave of controversy with an article titled ‘Obi-tuary’ where he lampooned the Labour Party Presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
The journalist has been the victim of backlash from supporters of the former Anambra governor after he tagged the crusaders of Obi’s ambition as miscreants and activists.
In the article published in TheNation Newspaper on Monday, Omatsaye said, “Obi has turned out to be an excuse for even closet Biafrans to betray open emotions about Biafra without being accused of it… It is like wearing a colour beneath another colour. Obi has become a shelter for both miscreants and activists of the crowd.”
The write-up itself contains more damning claims by the author who compared Obi to the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

Hate him or love him, Sam Omatseye can really and truly write!

In which @samomatseye comes out of the closet as a rabid ethic warrior, a formless piece of ruminant excrement. https://t.co/Y0uMWNp4vw

How can a veteran like Sam Omatseye use the back page of a national newspaper like the Nation to write something so polarising like this?
Comparing Peter Obi to IPOB, calling his supporters Obituary, is wrong.
Time will tell who belongs to the caterwauling group. 2023 will tell. pic.twitter.com/WJ5EVfIcB3— President Eniola Daniel (@UnlimitedEniola) August 1, 2022
1. In the lead-up to APC Primary, Sam Omatseye described Osinbajo in the most derogatory & provocative manner. Yemi’s only crime was that he dared to contest the primary against their deity, Tinubu. Agent Provocateur, Sam, is another Femi Adesina-in-waiting (God forbid BAT thing)

Crass journalism contrived from supposedly olympian heights of journalism into full immersion in the pedestrian bastion. Most regretable that Sam Omatseye has joined the partisan ranks of nattering nabobs of negativism. -OHO https://t.co/0G0oQ7Vnc9

Sam Omatseye wrote nonsense about Peter Obi and locked his comment section. He would have opened his comment section if he was proud of what he wrote or it's the true situation.

This is SAM OMATSEYE, another of those who will tell us that they know all about journalism.
Funny, he sits as Chairman of the Editorial Board of a national newspaper, just like Reuben Abati once did.
I lost respect him when he wrote that article, denigrating the Awolowo family. pic.twitter.com/HRRQfY8AFQ— Lere Olayinka – Aresa 1 (@OlayinkaLere) August 2, 2022

But Sam Omatseye has never hidden his hate for Igbo people. I've been reading him for about ten years.
I know.

When I tell people that Nigeria has an Igbo problem, deeply rooted Igbohobia, they say I am playing a victims mentality.
God keep us alive & in good health, 20yrs from today, Sam Omatseye will look back to this article and tell younger journalists "don't follow in my steps" pic.twitter.com/lcQN8u5AY8

You're "no longer holding Tinubu accountable but the entire SW/Yorubas" because of what Sam Omatseye, a Delta man wrote?
Some of you can no longer hide your hatred for the Yorubas just because of Tinubu, whom, most of us don't even like nor follow.
Continue, we'll see how far. https://t.co/WwR3W2ChDN
