Emirates Airlines says it will begin its flights to Lagos starting on September 11th, 2022 weeks after suspending flights to Nigeria.
The airline had suspended flights to Nigeria since September 1st over its inability to retrieve its revenue borne out of the forex crisis rocking the country.
The development comes almost a week after the federal government released the sum of $265 million to foreign airlines in the country to settle outstanding ticket sales.
“We are pleased to inform you that effective from 11th September 2022, we will reinstate operations of our flights,” Emirates said in an e-mail to customers on Wednesday.
“Inbound flights from Dubai to Lagos (EK783) and outbound flights from Lagos to Dubai (EK784) will recommence from Sunday 11th September 2022.
“Lagos flights after 30th September 2022 will be advised in due course.”
Nigeria’s aviation sector has been hit by the forex crisis which has seen foreign airlines mull flight suspension.
Within the past weeks and months, Nigeria’s foreign exchange problem worsened amidst depletion of its foreign reserves and soaring demand, which has further exacerbated the decline of the Naira in both the official and unauthorised markets respectively.
