A female student of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Rachael Opadele and an hotelier Olugbenga Owolabi have been killed by their abductors after receiving a N5 million ransom from their families.
Friends of the deceased student who spoke to OduNews said the student works at the hotel since the school has been shut over the ongoing strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
The two victims were abducted on Thursday night at the hotel located in the Abaa community in Surulere Local Government Area.
Although there is no confirmation about the killing from the police yet, sources close to the student’s family said the two of them were shot dead after the kidnappers had collected a N5m ransom.
The okada rider, who took the ransom to the kidnapper’s den, was reportedly shot, but the sources said he was still alive.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Adewale Osifeso, could not be reached.
When contacted, the Student Union President of LAUTECH, Anuoluwa Adeboye, said he had not confirmed the news from the police.
When contacted, the Olugbon of Orile Igbon, Oba Francis, however, confirmed the incident to our correspondent, saying, “It is true.”
The news of their deaths has since sparked protests with the Ogbomoso Ilorin road being blocked by protesting students and some residents in the area.
