The unions had suspended their nearly five-month strike on Saturday after meeting with Adamu Adamu, the minister of education, in Abuja.

The unions’ JAC had also directed its members across the country to resume work today.

But on Wednesday, SSANU and NASU’s JAC at UNILAG kicked against the directive.

Members of the two unions at the varsity alleged that the national executives did not fully inform them before suspending the strike.

They were also seen carrying placards with various inscriptions conveying their displeasure over the decision to suspend the industrial action.

Commenting on the development, Oriwaye Adefolalu, ex-SSANU chairman at UNILAG, tackled the national leadership of the unions.

Adefolalu wondered why the leadership of the unions would suspend the industrial action aimed at demanding the rights of their members without carrying the various state chapters along.

“I am not the kind of person that can deceive you, records are there, and the incumbent leadership of SSANU is not truthful. Initially, I thought they didn’t know what they were doing but they do,” he said.

“All they are after is their personal gain. The situation is getting worse every moment. I am 100% convinced that the suspension of the strike was stage-managed by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, to save his job. What Adamu did was brainwashing and greasing of their hands.”
