Manager Alex Cora said that despite his struggles this season, the team remains committed to Jarren Duran.
“He’s our center fielder right now. We trust him,” he said on NESN on Sunday. “This is a kid that’s part of what we’re trying to accomplish and we’re going to keep rolling with him.”
Durran faced many difficulties on Sunday, with a costly error in the field, followed by someone confronting him after he made an error in the field.
He has been slotted ninth in the batting order just ahead of Sunday’s game, after helping leadoff mostly during the first half of this year.
Durran is hitting .225 with two home runs, 12 RBI, 20 runs, seven stolen bases and a .650 OPS for the season. Recently, he’s hit .139 over the last 30 days.

The Red Sox, who have a talented but struggling player in David Durran, are in last place in the AL East. This is one season after going to the ALCS.
The Red Sox did not make the playoffs after they lost to the Houston Astros in the World Series, and are now at the bottom of a tough American League East.
With two years of struggling, there are real questions about whether Durran will have a place in the Boston Red Sox’s outfield beyond this season.
